TLFG: 6-12 October 2025

Greetings everyone and welcome to this week's TLFG.

Having had to work all weekend, I've had very little time left to put into this blog.

I've managed to get the match maps together as always and they're below with all the essential information you need, but that's it at the moment.

I thought it better to put this up before Monday's day at work than give you nothing at all.

Over the last few days, I've also failed to get to any games but this weekend yielded a perfect set of results for my favourite clubs.

England v Wales tops the bill this week

QPR won 2-1 at Bristol City in the league, Harrow Borough beat Witham Town 3-1 (with 10 men) in the FA Trophy and Actonians beat Ascot United 2-0 in the Women's FA Cup.

In the latter, the A's American captain Mara Bramwell scored both goals including a free-kick from close to the halfway line which you can see here.

This was particularly pleasing as I'd interviewed her earlier in the week on the new podcast I set up in August.

My work schedule is much lighter this week so hopefully I'll get to at least one match.

On Tuesday, I also hope to donate my 100th unit of blood platelets and plasma - there's always a need for new blood donors so if you haven't done it before or haven't been for a while, give it some thought.

I hope to finish the week at Berkeley Fields to watch Actonians play Chatham Town - my first time seeing them for four weeks!

Update - a full preview of this weekend's games is now available below.

THE WEEK AHEAD

England's friendly against Wales tops the bill this week but as a result of that, it's an international break so all the city's biggest clubs have the week off.

Don't despair though, there's still lots going on with matches the EFL, the final qualifying round of the FA Cup, the Women's Champions League, Women's Super League and lots of other great non-league and lower division women's matches.

As always, please make sure you check with clubs before you travel just in case a game has been called off or the venue or kick-off time has changed - this is highly possible for some of the lower non-league clubs and development matches. Also, please let me know if anything is wrong or missing.

Details on all of this week's games can be found on the following match maps. If you've never used them before, please note that when there is more than one match at a specific ground you'll only be able to see individual match pins if you zoom right in. If you don't, the pins obscure each other and you might miss them. To avoid this, you can also scroll down the list of games on the drop down menu at the top of the map page to make sure you get all the information. Games are listed from top to bottom in date order so Monday's games (yellow pin) will appear first and Sunday's (orange pin) last. Games are also ranked in terms of status so the higher the division, the higher up the list they will appear on each day.
Also if you're unfamiliar with the English league structure I indicate the level at which an individual league sits in the national 'pyramid' with the Premier League at the top (Level 1) and various minor leagues at the bottom (Level 10). Typically a top level game will see crowds of anywhere between 20,000-60,000. These figures will gradually decline as you go down the leagues until you get to Levels 8-10 where attendances of 150 or less are most common.

It should also be noted that the top four levels are for fully professional teams. Level 5 has a mixture of professional and semi-professional teams, while Levels 6-10 will see most players paid but it will vary from no more than travel expenses at the bottom, right up to several hundred pounds a week at the top.

TLFG WEEKEND DIGEST
In the following section, I list what are in my opinion the most notable games of the weekend and give some brief reasons for my choice. Check the maps above for kick-off times, ticket info and directions.

Friday 10 October

Professional Development League
QPR v Watford @2pm - this early kick-off at Loftus Road allows you to get your weekend off to a great start with the ability to watch two matches on Friday. Neither side are in spectacular form in this U21 division but it's a derby and it's usually pay what you want on the gate, with the proceeds going to the club's trust - the going rate is usually about £3

ECL Division 1 South
Cannons Wood v Southend Manor @745pm - the top non-league option of the night is this match in the 10th tier. The hosts, who groundshare with Aveley, are usually up among the play-off places but they've started quite badly. The visitors are also in the bottom six so there's quite a bit riding on this game. I've haven't seen any admission prices but it should be around £7

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Saturday 11 October

League One
AFC Wimbledon v Port Vale @3pm - with it being an international break, this match at Plough Lane is one of the highest level matches on offer. Quite a few pundits predicted a tough season for the newly promoted Dons but they've made a great start. Up in fifth after 11 games, they've won their last four. Vale are down in 16th but are on a decent run themselves and are a bit of a bogey team for Wimbledon, winning four of their last five against them. Tickets
Leyton Orient v Doncaster Rovers @3pm - with six defeats from 11 games, the O's find themselves two points above the relegation zone, with May's play-off final feeling a million miles away. The visitors are up in 10th but are winless in four. They do, however, have a good record at Brisbane Road with three wins from their last four visits. Tickets

FA Cup Fourth Round Qualifying
This is arguably the most exciting round of the FA Cup, particularly for non-league sides, as it represents the final hurdle they have to overcome before the pro teams from League One and League Two get involved. For the surviving minnows, things are made more difficult in this round by the introduction of all the fifth tier National League teams many of whom are also professional. The winners of each tie receive £9,375 and the losers £3,125. There are three ties in TLFG's area:

Aveley v Gateshead @3pm - even though the draw is still regionalised into North and South, the Millers who play within the M25 have somehow landed opponents from the far north-east. After suffering relegation to the seventh tier last season, the hosts don't look like bouncing back and are currently pottering along in midtable. The Heed are having quite a similar season but at two levels above and they will start as considerable favourites at Parkside. Tickets are a very reasonable £10 on the gate
Hampton & Richmond Borough v Eastleigh @3pm - in south-west London the sixth-tier Beavers have a reasonable chance of causing an upset at the Beveree. In the play-off places, they are one of the top teams at this level whilst the Spitfires are midtable, just a point ahead of Gateshead, in the division above. The hosts have made the First Round twice in recent years and beat Eastleigh at this stage to make it there in 2018. Tickets
Wealdstone v Whitstable Town @3pm - the final tie of the day is one of the most notable anywhere in the country as it sees the fifth-tier Stones host the lowest-ranked club left in the competition. Whitstable play in the ninth tier SCEFL Premier and have never made it this far before. To win away at a team four divisions above them would be the shock of the round. However, in the previous three rounds they've taken the scalps of Dulwich Hamlet, Chichester City and Hungerford Town who all play in the seventh tier and they went all the way to Wembley to win the FA Vase last season - I think it's fair to say they know a thing or two about playing in cups. Tickets

Isthmian League Premier
Dulwich Hamlet v Cray Wanderers @3pm - the match of the day in the seventh tier is this clash between two of the top five in this division. Cray are currently three points ahead of the Hamlet but they have a game in hand on the visitors. A win for Wanderers could see them go second. Games at Champion Hill often draw close to sell out crowds so you're always advised to buy tickets in advance

Isthmian League South East
AFC Croydon Athletic v Erith Town @3pm - just over two years ago, the Rams were bought by a consortium including Stormzy and Wilfried Zaha. They won promotion to the Isthmian League at the first attempt but struggled to make a big impact at this level, finishing 12th. This season has seen them up their game and they come into this match top of this eighth-tier division. The Dockers got promoted to this level in 2024 too and had a very similar debut season to Croydon. Sadly, this campaign hasn't begun so well and they're in the bottom four. With it being an international break, season-ticket holders from Premier League and EFL clubs get in for just £1

CCL Premier South
Tooting & Mitcham United v Redhill @3pm - it's fifth against sixth in my pick of the day in the ninth tier. The Terrors are into their third season at this level following relegation. For a good chunk of this century, they were a seventh-tier side and with their fine stadium and facilities that's where they should be. Although they finished eighth in 2024/25, they were still 12 points adrift of the play-off places so they going to have to find an extra gear to challenge this season. Redhill were one of three clubs to contest the closest title race in the country last season but ultimately fell short in the play-offs. They've begun well again and will provide a real test of the hosts' promotion credentials. Tickets are £8 on the gate

SSML Division 1
Everett Rovers v Buckingham FC @3pm - the hosts only finished third in the 11th tier Hertfordshire Senior County League last season, some 16 points behind winners Chipperfield Corinthians. However, they were the only ones in the leading group to apply for promotion and with their ground good enough, they were accepted. Their start to life in the 10th tier has been remarkable. Top and unbeaten after 11 games, the club from Watford are having a magnificent season. Buckingham are eighth and have won their last four in all competitions. I haven't found any admission details but it shouldn't exceed £7
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------

Sunday 12 October

Kent Senior Trophy First Round
Erith & Belvedere v Welling Town @4pm - women's football takes centre stage on Sunday but for those of you who prefer men's football or those who want to do a double then this late kick-off could be for you. Combinable with the Chelsea, Crystal Palace or London City Lionesses matches at 12pm, the Deres should start this cup tie as considerable favourites as they're top of the division above the Boots. Tickets are usually £8 on the gate

Women's Super League
Chelsea v Tottenham Hotspur @12pm - the game of the day in women's football sees the leaders welcome third place Spurs to Kingsmeadow. That the Blues are top again is no surprise but to see Tottenham among the frontrunners really is. Never finishing higher than sixth, they actually came second bottom last season and no-one expected such a bright start under new boss Martin Ho. Tickets
London City Lionesses v West Ham United @12pm - the hosts, who groundshare at Bromley, picked up their second win of the season against Liverpool last week to move into midtable. Despite spending a lot bringing new signings to Hayes Lane, LCL are still gelling but you'd favour them to pick up some more points against the Hammers who've lost every game and are bottom. Tickets
Arsenal v Brighton & Hove Albion @230pm - if you want to experience a match at the Emirates without breaking the bank, then this WSL game could be for you. With only two wins from five, the Gunners have made a disappointing start. In a division which has been decided by goal difference in the past, every point is crucial so to be five points adrift of Chelsea already is worrying for anyone with title ambitions. The Seagulls are only a point behind and will move into the top five if they win. Tickets

Women's Super League 2
Charlton Athletic v Sheffield United @2pm - the Addicks were not in many pundits' predictions to do well this season but after five games, they're three points clear at the top. The Blades' men's and women's teams have both made a bad start and both will do well to avoid the drop. This is being played at The Valley and tickets are available
Crystal Palace v Sunderland @12pm - the Eagles suffered relegation from the WSL last season and show little sign of going straight back up. Lodged firmly in midtable, they take on a Mackems side who are just above them in sixth. This is being played at Sutton United and tickets are available

FAWNL Southern Premier
AFC Wimbledon v Cheltenham Town @2pm - both sides have made disappointing starts and sit just above the relegation zone. With bottom club Billericay Town looking like dead certs to claim one of the two relegation places, it's all about avoiding the other one. A win here will therefore be massive for either. This is being played at Tooting & Mitcham United and tickets are available

FAWNL Division 1 South East
Actonians v Chatham Town @2pm - after enjoying a decent FA Cup win over Ascot United last Sunday, the A's can look forward to another physical game against a tough Chats side who sit just above them in midtable. The Kent club finished third last season but lost twice and drew once in their league and cup games against Actonians. It should be a close one. This is being played at North Greenford United and tickets are available in advance or on the gate
Dulwich Hamlet v London Bees @2pm - after a ropey start, the Hamlet are starting to improve. A slightly surprising 2-1 win at QPR in their last league game moved them five points clear of the relegation zone and last week they beat Leatherhead in the FA Cup. Bees made a blistering start but are now winless in two in the league and down to fourth - they will still start as favourites though. Tickets
Fulham v Chesham United @2pm - the Cottagers are three points clear at the top after winning all of their first five games. You'd expect them to extend that run as they host struggling Chesham who are in the bottom two and yet to win a game. Tickets

  1. Amazing goal for Actonians. Just shows you what women footballers are capable of to make the game exciting.
